Poets from 15 countries from all over the world will take part in more than 60 events in Ptuj and 18 other locations across Slovenia and neighbouring countries. The unique festival in this part of Europe returns every with a richer programme: this year the festival spreads to the mysterious Carthusian monastery Žiče Charterhouse, for the first time the festival warm-up Evenings before Days will take place in Špica, Ljubljana, with an evening event and a poetry reading on a boat along the Ljubljanica river. In addition to evening concerts and intimate readings in the private gardens of Ptuj’s old town, which open the doors of their high walls only to poetry and poetry lovers, the festival will be enriched with the participation of young poets. For the first time, visitors will begin their mornings with poetry; poetry for breakfast with coffee and croissant with world-renowned poets, and end their days with evening concerts on the main festival stage in the old town.
The finest poetry from around the world, which magically comes to life only in intimate spaces of old gardens and squares where the atmosphere is suffused with verses and stories, attracts more than 15,000 visitors from Slovenia and abroad each year. Poetry readings, poetry duel, free workshops for the youngest visitors, events for senior citizens and a playful carnival promenade, art installations, music, photography, select Slovenian and foreign wines, and poetry at every turn transform the small medieval town into the capital of poetry, where people of diverse backgrounds and interests find new inspiration, ideas and opportunities for cooperation.
Since 2014, Days of Poetry and Wine is a member of the European poetry platform Versopolis, which promotes poetry across borders. Emerging poets from different European countries take part in the festival and have the opportunity to read alongside eminent poets from all over the world.
All festival events are free (with the exception of the charity poetry duel) and all events are in Slovenian and English.
Four days, which will not leave anyone cold, a festival that remains in everyone's memories.
